Yes, I digg myself

By George Huff

I’ve submitted numerous posts to digg.com. Not only is digg fun and web 2.0-ee, but it’s the kind of crowd I would like to write to. The smart ones, the ones who seek out and have an opinion on information. It is really surprising I haven’t been called out for shameless self-promotion.

I guess writing in the first place in it’s purest form (on a blog of course) is self-promotion. Ahh well, it’s useless to try to be a purest. It’s such a subjective roll. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

And then the entry takes a turn for the worse…

The dust has not settled on the digg crowd. We have hype! One of the poster childs for the web2.0. We have aesthetics. Let’s be real, this whole revolution in the web is about bells, whistles, and data mining. What we don’t have yet is a track record.

I read a statistic (which I will most likely misquote) somewhere, probably from digg, that 10% of the users control 90% of the content. If digg gets mainstream wheels (just because it’s old news to some of us, doesn’t mean it’s not mainstream) those 10% of users will really have some power.

All late night speculation at this point. We will see.

(btw, if someone kind of recognizes my statistic and has the url, i would gladly post it.)
