I am a horrible blogger AND a decent hustler

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I’m always reading these “how to blog” lists, well not so much of late, but I was reading them.  They all say consistency is key!

“Blog on a consistent basis, if it’s one time a week, then make sure you do it…”

In reading that, it seemed easy enough – but nope! Anyhow, it’s retarded for me to even blog about blogging (no offense to the retards who read my blog). I’ve been so busy doing that I haven’t had time to really tell about any of it – so here goes.

The Choices We Face

Friday, July 4th, 2008

The always on mentality – it’s a choice. The quality of your work – another choice.  The quantity of your work – another choice. There is only so much you can control and the rest you have to let go and enjoy the ride.

Occasionally, I hit a speed bump. Something that doesn’t feel quite right in my gut, something that brings me to the uncomfortable conclusion, yes, I still have much to learn. Don’t over-extend-promise-deliver, all of these things get you in trouble in one way or another.

HomeSkillet Fest Catalog

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Recently, I had the opportunity to do something in photoshop/illustrator that wasn’t webdesign. I have very little experience in designing things for the real world. I decided to wait a few months till I posted this to see if it was worth it.

Don’t get me wrong, this catalog isn’t horrible. I am happy to say it was a good first attempt. Along the way I got to increase my CS3 sweet chops and learn a new program (InDesign) which I had never used before. HomeSkillet Fest, which I co-founded, is always a chance for me to branch out and learn something new. I think it’s important to have not only client projects, but your own projects as well.

Oh Where Have I Been?

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

In Alaska! I couldn’t believe how much there was to do up there. HomeSkillet Fest went off without a hitch and the label was even able to tuck away a little for next years fest. I really enjoyed being up there this time around. Perhaps I didn’t have the time to get bothered by the usual things. I was sad to leave when it happened.

Anyhow, I will be posting youtube vids, flickr photos, and more blog posts in the coming days.

Check it out my independent alaskan record label(i will die from SEO whoredom), the other place I blog. Anyone want to redesign it? ;-)

HomeSkilletFest 2007

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

It’s that time of year again when I get to break out of my box and design something whichever way I like. Ahh freedom. Right after HomeSkilletFest 06, I decided the next year’s theme would have a revolution look and feel. I’m using the communist star and a viva la revolution fist, which both conjur up images of toppling and overthrow. How does this relate to HomeSkillet Records? Because we don’t like the RIAA.

As with most HomeSkillet Records (the label I co-founded) projects, there are a ton of subtle things I like to hide within the design. May as well keep it interesting right?

HomeSkillet Fest

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

I come from a small town in Alaska, and I have been up here for the last few days promoting HomeSkillet Fest. We’ve been planning this show for the last five months, it’s nice to see it come to fruition. I think more than anything, this show has helped pull me back to my roots.

It’s funny, I was thinking about my high school teacher who taught me basic html. I wonder what he would think now. Anyone who reads me knows I love the internet and all the barriers it is knocking down. I probably would grow up to be a soured old prick if I didn’t have things digital distribution of music.

Which brings me to HomeSkillet Fest.
