omg it’s february

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

A month has gone by since I started some of my New Year’s Resolution. How am I doing? Great. But I have been insanely busy. So much in fact that I have neglected my sweet sweet audience, all three of you. Why so busy? I had two projects start, another project move into production, and another project which has been dormant for a good six months, pop back up on my radar.

The good news however is that I am still keeping myself healthy with the daily jaunt on the old elyptical trainer. I’m feeling healthy and my slight beer belly may just be receding. Maybe. During the month of February I hope to launch three new sites, maybe more.

I’m working with the great Jesse Stollak a.k.a. jps.pdx, on a hot new blog project. Which will be live early March.

The hustle continues. I will try to stay on top of this writing stuff.

In Respect to Web Professionals

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Lately my company has been in the process of hiring a Production Artist. It has shed light on a lot of interesting truths. Some good, some not so good. Either way, there is definitely a scale of talent regardless of experience or not.

It seems strange with the applications we are getting that the longer people have been claiming to be involved with the web, the worse their work gets. There seems to be a direct relation. As with anything there are exceptions to the rule, and taking a sample size of say 150 versus 10, the data would most certainly change. Counter to most professions, where experience is a “must”, I don’t see the production artist, or design position as one of those.

I have a few thoughts as to why this trend happens.

Rest and Relaxation

Monday, June 26th, 2006

I have to admit that I work way too much. I really don’t think I can escape it either. Between a full-time job (building websites), HomeSkillet Records, and a roster of freelance clients, there really isn’t time for rest and relaxation. Add Toula the Pitbull, Jesus the Cat, and D (the girlfriend), into the mix and there isn’t time for much else.

Eventually I will have to split with the freelance, or split with the full-time job. For now, I have to come up with a way to stop being so busy. To my friends who have known me for years, it’s a rare occasion anymore, when I actually show up to an event, or do something at the spur of the moment. It’s not that I plan, because I am terrible at planning, it’s that I am either assumed to be busy, or can’t give up any free time because I immediatley try to fill it with more work. Usually yard work, or brainstorming up new projects (Type A, with a flare for chaos).

Enter this weekend (Pictures in my flickr feed), I actually hung out and stayed out…

Site Relaunch

Monday, June 12th, 2006

At some point in the last few months, I decided it was time to start redesigning my portfolio. It was a combination of my old one never really being finished, and the fact I was starting to get more traffic from a few of my freelance projects around the web. When users (and myself) clicked through to my portfolio, it was a downgrade to most of the work that they were clicking from. Not a good thing.

So I began rethinking exactly what I wanted my portfolio to be. I started wondering whether or not I wanted just a portfolio, or if I wanted more than that.

In the end, I decided I needed to sell my brand, which isn’t just what I have done, but is who I am and how I work.
