Green Thumbs
By George Huff
George, my name, means farmer or to farm. Today I did just that. After a few meetings this morning I decided to take the hot (81 degrees farenheit!) afternoon and spend it planting my vegetables in my garden. Keep in mind I have never done this before. I’ve had starters going for the last few months, and for the most part they are doing ok.
There used to be some bamboo that wouldn’t transplant in my backyard, which I stripped of branches and intended to use to support my tomatoes and cucumbers. And fortunately, Toula girl chewed them up even more, so now they are really sturdy; I hope.
Anyhow, a couple pics after the jump of my raised beads and bamboo trellis (still some netting to hang, but baby steps for this one.
A picture of all three of my beds lined up, my own mini stonehenge in my back yard, minus the stone.

My super cool, “doesn’t really fit in portland” bamboo stocks I am turning into a trellis, and notice the poor plants, they are doing ok, but may need to bite the bullet and buy some pro starters. Feels like cheating. If someone were to tell me I didn’t live up to my name, I may just agree with them in this case. Oh and no comments on the grass please, that is scheduled for a wacking later this week.

Here's the thing...
In May of 2007 I co-founded We the Media with Jeff Reynolds - we wanted to provide an alternative structure to the typical agency model. We found there to be two universal truths we shared.
- The most important thing is the work we put out.
- The second most important thing are the people we work with.
Once we had this gauged, we set out to bring in talented people who wanted the flexibility of freelancing with the steadiness of a typical 9-5pm job. We're constantly working on making the model work - but so far, we've been very happy.
Since every drop of my sweat goes into building We the Media, it only seemed appropriate you view my (our) work there.
