Finished Trellises

By George Huff

Yesterday I wrote a post about my gardening and my cool bamboo trellises I was building. The problem is, I needed more trellises and I ran out of bamboo. I felt like it would be really half cocked to have two bamboo trellises and two pine trellises. So late last night after a meeting I headed to Lowes.

I don’t know about the Lowes hardware where everyone else lives, but the one in North Portland suckkks. Especially if you go there around 7pm on a week night. Nobody knows anything and it’s impossible to find an employee. Luckily I went in knowing this, because I was searching for some fringe stuff; cargo net, wood stakes, and cat repellent.

Long story short, after walking around the store and asking many Lowe’s employees where to find my items to no avail, I finally found a lady hiding in the back corner of the big garden center behind some trees. I walked around a corner and she jumped out and spooked me. “Ma’am, maybe you can help me, I’m building some trellises and need some net. My cat keeps digging holes in my new garden, and I’m in denial that he’s already pissing in my garden on day one, and I already have some sturdy stakes here.” She straightened me right out, I was on my way.

By the time I got home, it was dark. But I had a project to do, so I turned on the flood lights and started building my trellises. Of that, I don’t have a picture, but I do have some pictures of my finished project, which I wrapped up early this morning. Not the prettiest of trellises, but they are sturdy and I built them myself, which gives me a huge amount of pride!
