PHP Sphider
By George Huff
I’m not sure how many people are building out static websites anymore. You know, the ones that aren’t database driven. I, for one, haven’t done it in quite some time. Currently however, I am working on a site that has been on my plate since before I made the switch.
It’s kind of a pain really, I am using Dreamweaver library items to try to make things easy for myself. But as anyone who has worked in Dreamweaver knows, Library items aren’t quite right. Anyhow, I needed to have search functionality on a site I have been trying to finish for over a year, and I found PHP Sphyder. This little bot is a life saver if you can’t put it in a CMS.
I had it all up and running relatively quickly and the documentation seems easy enough to get through. PHP Sphyder does search functionality like a champ, and since it’s all server side, you can make it look like the rest of your site. Unlike the google search people use. Good stuff.
